Current Transformers

Current Transformer Wound Typе

A wound current transformer is a transformer with separate primary and secondary windings wrapped around a laminated core.

Specifications of wound type current transformer (CT):

  1. Primary winding: Consists of a few turns of
heavy wire that can carry the full load current
  2. Secondary winding: Consists of many turns
of smaller wire with a current carrying capacity
  3. Applications: Used in Low Voltage metering purpose
  4. Current range: Can sense currents in the range
of 1A to 100A as per primary current.

Current Transformer Ring Type

Ring type CTs are commonly used in cables, busbars, and
transformers bushings. They can be used for measuring.
protection, and core balance applications.

Specifications of ring type current transformer (CT):

  1. Primary winding: the primary conductor that fits inside
    a doughnut-shaped iron toroid core.
  2. Secondary winding: a distributed winding that forms a toroid around the core of the transformer.
  3. Applications: Ring type CT are commonly used in cables, busbars and transformers bushings.
  4. Current range: Can sense currents in the range of

1A to 1200A
